Privacy Policy

PromptAds ("the extension") is published by PromptMarketing BV, Amsterdam, the Netherlands (KVK 98837230). PromptAds shows you the sponsored advertisements that appear in your ChatGPT sessions, keeps a local log of them for you, and, only if you opt in, lets you contribute those ads to the public European ChatGPT Ad Library.

The short version

By default, PromptAds sends nothing anywhere: your ad log is stored locally in your browser, on your device, under your control. If you explicitly opt in to the European ChatGPT Ad Library, the extension shares the ads you encounter (the ad itself, never your conversations) with PromptMarketing to build a public record of advertising in ChatGPT. You can opt out at any time.

What PromptAds stores locally

When a sponsored ad unit appears in a ChatGPT page you are viewing, PromptAds saves a record of that ad in your browser's local extension storage: the advertiser name, the ad headline and text, the destination link and its campaign parameters, an image address if the ad had one, the ad format, the date and time, your browser language, and a short one-way hash of the conversation's identifier (used only to avoid duplicate entries; it cannot be reversed into the conversation).

PromptAds does not read, store or transmit your conversations, prompts or ChatGPT answers. If you enable the optional setting "store the conversation title", the tab title at the moment of detection is saved with the ad record, locally like everything else. This setting is off by default and conversation titles are never part of Ad Library contributions.

The European ChatGPT Ad Library (opt-in)

If, and only if, you switch on "Contribute my ads" and confirm the consent dialog, PromptAds sends a copy of each newly detected ad to PromptMarketing's server. A contribution contains: advertiser name, headline, ad text, destination link and campaign parameters, image address, ad format, detection method, your browser language, and the detection timestamp. It does not contain your conversations, conversation titles or identifiers, page addresses, name, email, or account information.

Each contribution carries a random installation identifier that is not linked to your identity; we use it solely to protect the library against abuse (for example, floods of fabricated records). If you opt out, this identifier is discarded and replaced, and any unsent contributions are deleted from your device. Our server uses your connection's network address transiently to derive a country code (for example "NL") and does not store the address itself.

Contributed records become part of a public, aggregated library of ChatGPT advertising. Because contributions contain no personal data, published library entries cannot be traced to contributors. PromptMarketing BV is the controller for contribution processing; the legal basis is your consent (art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time via the extension's opt-out. Withdrawal stops future contributions immediately; already-published non-personal ad records remain in the library. Installation identifiers are removed from stored records after at most 12 months.

What else leaves your device

Nothing. PromptAds has no account system, no analytics and no telemetry. Besides opt-in contributions, the only network request the extension makes is an optional, at most daily, download of a small configuration file (ad-detection rules, plain JSON, no code) from promptmarketing.com. That request contains no personal data and no information about your ad log, and you can switch it off in the settings.

Your controls

You can export your full ad log (CSV or JSON), delete it entirely, pause logging, opt in or out of the Ad Library, and toggle both optional settings, all from the extension's dashboard. Uninstalling the extension removes its local storage.

Your rights (EU/EEA)

For contribution processing you have the GDPR rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection, and the right to withdraw consent. Because contributions are not linked to your identity, we may be unable to associate stored records with you; where that is the case, the GDPR's provisions on processing that does not require identification apply. Contact privacy@promptmarketing.com for any request. You also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes

We will update this policy before any change to what PromptAds collects or shares, and material changes will be signposted in the extension. The default remains: local only, unless you opt in.
