GEO: engineer your way into the AI answer

Generative Engine Optimization

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is how brands get found, cited and recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. We are Europe's specialist GEO agency: measurement-led, technical and senior. No guesswork, no rebranded SEO retainer.

What is Generative Engine Optimization?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimising a brand's content, technical foundations and off-site authority so that generative AI engines mention, cite and recommend it in their answers. Where SEO optimises for a ranked list of links, GEO optimises for being the answer itself.

You will also see the terms AEO (Answer Engine Optimization), AI SEO, LLM SEO and AI search optimization. They describe the same shift with different emphases: AEO focuses on direct answers, GEO on the generative engines producing them. We use GEO as the umbrella term, and in practice we do both.

One thing GEO cannot change: LLM answers are probabilistic, so nobody can guarantee a specific mention. What we engineer is probability: measured mention rates, citation rates and share of voice, moved upward and proven with data.

Your buyers stopped clicking

Over half of Google searches already end without a click, and when someone asks ChatGPT for a recommendation, the answer typically names about three brands. If your classic SEO is fine but your AI-search presence is weak, unmeasured or losing share to a competitor, that gap compounds every month, because engines keep learning from the sources that cite them today. GEO is the successor category to an SEO services market estimated at over $100B globally, and in Europe dedicated GEO-first practices are still rare. The brands that build presence now become the reference answers later.

Diagnosis before optimisation

Every GEO engagement starts from AI Visibility, our measurement layer. Before we change anything we know your mention rate, citation rate, share of voice, sentiment and accuracy across nine engines, benchmarked against competitors, on a panel of 150+ prompts built from your customers' real language. The baseline also tells us which lever to pull: for every priority prompt we diagnose whether the answer comes from live retrieval, fixable in weeks with content and authority work, or from the model's weights, a longer entity and authority play. Optimisation without that diagnosis is guesswork with a nicer name.

What we optimise

Technical (SXO)

Making your site reachable, renderable and quotable for machines.

  • AI crawler access: GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended, verified at log level. Because user-agent strings are trivially spoofed, we verify every crawler against official IP ranges and reverse DNS before trusting any AI-traffic number.
  • Server-side rendering and retrievability checks per page template: if key content is not in the retrievable HTML, no content strategy can save it.
  • Structured data and schema, entity consistency across your knowledge graph presence, EEAT signals and Core Web Vitals.

Content

Making every page answer-shaped and citable at the passage level.

  • Query fan-out coverage: engines split a buyer question into many sub-queries, and we map your content against each one, then fill the gaps.
  • Chunk-level citability: we analyse which passages get cited and which relevant passages fail to surface, then restructure the misses with extractable definitions, factual tables and answer-first architecture.
  • Winning-format analysis: we build the formats engines actually cite in your category, such as comparisons, documentation and research, not generic blog posts.

Authority

Making the sources engines trust talk about you.

  • Citation source landscape: from thousands of parsed answers we rank which domains, publications, directories and communities the engines cite in your category.
  • Targeted digital PR, review-platform presence and community participation, prioritised by citation frequency rather than domain-authority folklore.
  • Reddit and forum strategy grounded in our own index of the threads engines pull from.

An engineering approach, not a content mill

Our delivery runs on a proprietary agentic engine built by our own LLM Visibility Engineer, and it shows in the work.

Automated keyword-to-prompt research

Your existing keyword data is translated into conversational prompts automatically, with volume carried along as a demand proxy.

A proprietary People Also Ask database

A large-scale set of validated question patterns, mined for your category before we write a single brief.

Reddit and forum indexing

We scrape and index community threads at scale, both to source real buyer questions and to find the exact threads engines cite.

Deterministic QA gates

Every dataset and every deliverable passes automated checks before a senior consultant interprets it.

Days, not weeks

A full baseline and content-gap map in days, so senior time goes into decisions rather than spreadsheets.

Every change traced to a metric

We do not report activity, we report movement: mention rate, citation rate, share of voice, position and role, sentiment and accuracy, re-measured continuously on the same panel the baseline was built on. Monthly reports explain what changed, why, and what we do next. If a workstream does not move a metric, it dies.

The Engineer package

GEO is the Engineer package: from EUR 4,000 per month. Everything in Understand (the full AI Visibility layer), plus technical SXO audit and implementation, on-page GEO and AEO, and the off-page authority roadmap, for up to five markets. Brands with an in-house team can also engage us for the diagnosis and roadmap, executed by your people with our playbooks.

What is the difference between GEO and SEO?

SEO optimises pages to rank in a list of links; GEO optimises a brand to be mentioned, cited and recommended inside AI-generated answers. They share foundations (crawlability, structured data, authority), but GEO adds prompt-level measurement, passage-level citability and a different source landscape, including communities like Reddit.

Is GEO the same as AEO?

Largely, yes. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) emphasises direct answers, GEO emphasises the generative engines that produce them. In delivery they overlap almost completely, which is why we treat GEO as the umbrella and execute both.

Do I still need SEO if I invest in GEO?

Yes. Classic search still carries volume, and much of what makes a site strong in Google also feeds AI engines. GEO complements your existing SEO programme as a separately scoped workstream with its own metrics; we work alongside in-house teams and SEO agencies without overlap.

How long before GEO shows results?

Retrieval-grounded answers can move in weeks once content and authority signals change. Representation baked into model weights moves slower, over quarters, through entity and authority work. Our baseline tells you per prompt which case you are in, so expectations are set by diagnosis, not hope.

Can you guarantee my brand appears in ChatGPT?

No, and nobody honestly can: LLM answers are probabilistic. What we do is measure your mention and citation rates across repeated runs, engineer the factors that drive them, and show the movement. Rates, not promises.

What does a GEO agency cost?

Our Engineer package starts at EUR 4,000 per month, including the full measurement layer. A standalone Understand baseline starts at EUR 2,000 per month, which is the usual first step.
